India the favourites at the World Cup in England! CC: Australia and Pakistan

Congratulations, the crusader M S Dhoni, and the vibrant Virat, the navigator, for the repeat of 2009 performance against a side that has started the series as under dog!

India under Dhoni could have sealed the fate of Australians under Clarke at SCG on the night of 26th March, but things went strangely as Clarke won the toss and opted to bat on a batsman-friendly track. The pace trio of Mohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Bhuvaneswar Kumar couldn’t unsettle the ravaging openers inside first two overs – who were not as significant as the deadliest opening pairs in Adam Gilchrist and Mathew Hayden, Desmond Haynes and Phil Simmons, and Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly – and while one got out to a short pitched delivery, Steve Smith and Finch set things right for the hosts who already came out of wobbles of pace bowling from Wahab Riaz in the quarter final at Adelaide Oval. Now, that is history.

What happened to Mitchell Johnson late in the innings when he smashed 27 off just 9 deliveries is beyond history textbooks of cricketing logic. Now, with the resurgent Indian mindset – don’t belittle the word resurgent – and an experienced Mahendra Singh Dhoni with trophies under his kitty, it’s a case of who’s facing India the probable finalist on July 14, 2019. So, where has team improved under the influence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his successor Virat Kohli?

Fielding, nay.

Bowling, nay.

Batting, nay.

Attitude, aye!
